Hickman's 'Scrambles' to Help Valley's Hungry

Hickman's Family Farms, producers of fresh eggs in Arizona since 1944, have been "scrambling" to help local food banks. On December 6, 2007, their volunteer team of family and staff members helped make "Breakfast for Dinner" for 500 guests of the St. Vincent de Paul's dining room, which involved making omelets with all the trimmings for everyone in less than half an hour. Howard Helmer, known as the world's fastest omelet maker, flew in from New York to assist. Also lending support were Shamrock Farms, Bar-S Foods Co., and Holsum Bakery.

On December 13, Hickman's delivered 108,000 (9,000 dozen) fresh shell eggs to St. Mary's Food Bank. The donation came in response to a public appeal from the food bank for donations because of a shortage of staples for its emergency food boxes. Hickman's spokesperson, Sharman Hickman Silva states, "We believe a hot breakfast with Hickman's eggs is the best nutritious, protein-rich way to start the day. We're also grateful to Bar-S for rounding out the meal with pre-cooked bacon."

Paying Bills Online Saves Time and Money

'Twas the season for spending! Many of us racked up more credit card debt with holiday purchases, travel expenditures and overall merriment with our family and friends, creating more bills for us to pay. With all that shopping, traveling and good cheer, who had time to keep up with the bills we already have? On the other hand, who will have any money left for the inevitable late fees and penalties when bills get paid late?

Paying late fees and penalties is just a waste of money. Lack of organization and poor planning are often responsible for late bill payments. Sometimes, payments are missed all together due to disorganization. This is a financially devastating pattern to fall into. Not only does it cost you money, but certain late payments will reflect poorly on your credit history. Creditors may get the impression that you are financially unable to pay on time even if this is not the case. Online Bill Pay offers a solution.

Online Bill Pay is a service that debits funds from your checking or savings account in order to pay your bills directly to your payees on the dates you specify. Your payments are made either electronically or by paper check, depending on the payee. Your payees are then able to easily identify and record your payments based on your name and the other information that you provide via the online Bill Pay system, such as an account number. Think of the money you'll save on checks, envelopes and stamps alone!

Online Bill Pay makes paying bills on time easier by reducing the amount of time it takes to get it done and by automating many types of payments. With Online Bill Pay, bills that are paid routinely for the same amount -- such as your rent or mortgage, car payment, insurance, home owner's association dues and other -- can be set up as a recurring payment and your bills will be paid on time without you even having to think about it. In some cases, invoices can be received electronically from your payee, such as your utility and credit card bills, and paid automatically by the Online Bill Pay system according to the specific rules you establish, allowing you to make variable payments without ever opening an envelope. When electronic invoices are received or automatic payments are sent, Online Bill Pay sends you an email to let you know, so you can stay on top of things.

Online Bill Pay also helps you stay organized, keep your hard-earned money longer, and even pay bills faster. Bill payments can be entered far in advance, as soon as the invoices are received, but won't be sent until it's time for them to be paid. This allows you to keep your money in the bank longer, without having to remember to put the check in the mail just before the due date, and without any fear that the check will get lost or delayed in the mail. Payees that have an agreement with the Online Bill Pay provider to receive payments electronically may allow you to enter bill payments as little as two days in advance, just in case a due date has snuck up on you. In addition, your bill payments are guaranteed, so if any payment made by the Online Bill Pay service is delayed or lost in the mail, the service provider will cover any late fees you incur.

Online Bill Pay isn't just for individuals. Businesses can take advantage of the time and cost savings as well. With Online Bill Pay, you or your accounting staff can substantially increase productivity by automating many routine payments, allowing more time for other tasks. Plus, making payments on time can help you take advantage of payment terms and discounts, and it helps improve your relationship with your vendors and suppliers.

Online Bill Pay is free through Arrowhead Community Bank. Registration for online Bill Pay is easy using either Internet Banking or our Cash Management system. For more information about online Bill Pay, check out our website at www.arrowheadcommunitybank.com or contact Sarah or Desiree at 623-776-0800.
