Bank Note$ - News You Can Bank On
A Note From
Arlene Kulzer, President & CEO
Dear Friends,
Did you know Maricopa Community Colleges (MCCCD) benefit students and students' benefits benefit everyone?
- Over their lifetimes, students with AA degrees earn $443,600 more than those with only high school diplomas. That is $11,900 more per year on average or a 37% increase;
- 90% of MCCCD students remain in the region after graduating; Each year the combined incomes of all former MCCCD students increase by $391.8 million;
- Their increased incomes increase the total incomes in Maricopa County by between 5% and 7%.
These are just a few of the reasons why I both personally and professionally through the Bank strongly support the ACE Plus program at Glendale Community College (GCC). Since 1988, more than 2,500 high school students have changed their lives forever through one of Arizona's most successful, dynamic pathways to college: The ACE Plus (Achieving a College Education) Program at GCC – a scholarship-based early outreach program that helps West Valley students:
- Earn college credits while still in high school;
- Prepare for the challenges and realities of college, contributing to academic success;
- Overcome the “fear factor” of pursuing higher education ─ particularly important for first-generation college students and at-risk, financially disadvantaged students.
As I learned recently while attending a Solutions Through Higher Education presentation, “A crisis in education is looming in America. The educational performance of our children simply does not measure up to countries around the world, and we are not producing enough educated, highly skilled workers to effectively compete in today's global, knowledge-based economy. This crisis is especially acute in Arizona, which trails the rest of the nation in college completion and other key measures of educational performance.”
To learn more about more about GCC's ACE Plus Program and how you can help, please contact Judy Sanchez, Director of Alumni & Scholarship Development, (623) 845-3481; and to learn more about how you can join the collation for Solutions Through Higher Education, please visit their web site

Best Wishes,

Nominate Your ACB Volunteer of the Month
ACB’s Volunteer of the Month recognition wants to know who you think should be recognized for their volunteer work or community service. If you know a volunteer who should be recognized, please submit your nominee’s name, photo and a brief bio to Arlene Kulzer at arlene.kulzer@arrowheadcommunitybank.com. Your nominee does not have to be a client of ACB to be nominated.
Later this year we will select ACB’s volunteer of the year and award that person a $1,000 check payable to the non-profit organization of his or her choice.
SL Bade & Associates
Trent Marr (right) draws the name of the recipient of eight tickets to SL Bade & Associates, LLC's luxury suite at Jobing.com Arena from Shelley Bade.
SL Bade & Associates, LLC, a commercial real estate and consulting services firm headed by Shelley Bade, was the recent sponsor of the Peoria Chamber of Commerce’s membership luncheon. "We were honored to have SL Bade & Associates as the sponsor of the first luncheon held in the beautiful Lakeview Room at Rio Vista Recreation Center," said Peoria Chamber’s Acting Executive Director, Diana Bedient.
"Shelley Bade is extremely active in Peoria and other northwest communities — whether it’s serving on various boards, supporting nonprofits, or sharing her expertise relating to small business and commercial development. We are proud to have Shelley and SL Bade & Associates as an active partner with Peoria Chamber of Commerce, participating in so many of our events throughout the year."
In March, SL Bade & Associates, LLC relocated its offices to the Citadelle, a Stephens Land Company development, located at the northwest corner of 59th Avenue and Utopia in Glendale. The strategic move results from SL Bade & Associates’ role of leasing company for the upscale 100,000 square foot mixed-use center.
